Students at Toledo Technology Academy of Engineering and the Toledo Pre-Medical and Health Science Academy have a new outlet to relax, recharge and focus on their mental well-being.
That’s through access to the new DeVilbiss Wellness Room, located on the second floor of the former DeVilbiss High School, the building which the two schools share.
Thanks to the following community partners: The Collaborative, NBS Commercial Interiors and the Tiger Legacy Fund, who contributed in-kind and cash donations for the project. The concept of the wellness room came through discussions by students involved in the SMARTS student leadership group, to place an emphasis on student mental health awareness and advocacy. It features comfortable seating, yoga mats, artistic outlets and mind-clearing resources.
TPS CEO/Superintendent Dr. Romules Durant will joined a group of students and representatives from the community partners to celebrate the project coming together.
The Tiger Legacy Fund was created last year by a group of DeVilbiss High School alumni through the TPS Foundation and this is the first project the fund is involved in at the former DeVilbiss High School, which operated between 1931-1991. Campaign Co-Chair
Jim Curphey was on hand to discuss efforts to assist the two new schools while also keeping the “Tiger Spirit” alive. The Tiger Legacy Fund donated approximately $10,000 towards the DeVilbiss Wellness Room project.
